Valley of the Gods takes us to Ancient Egypt. This 5x5 slot by Yggdrasil might use a common slot theme, but it’s a whole other story when it comes to gameplay.

For a start, the 5x5 grid begins the game with a diamond shape, since not all the positions on the reels are active. The 1, 3, 5, 3, 1 row configuration offers 45 paylines, but this changes drastically when lucky foxes start landing wins. But more about that later; first, let's take a look at the symbols. 

Yggdrasil has paid its usual attention to detail in the design of this game, and all the low-paying symbols are hieroglyphics paying a max of 40 x the line bet for five of a kind. Egyptian gods are the premiums, with the most valuable, Horus, worth a max of 500 x the line bet for 5. The betting range is from 0.10 to 100.00 for the total bet, and you need to divide your chosen level by 45 to get the line bet. 

Yggdrasil always likes to try and do things a little differently and experiment with gameplay. So in this game, they've done away with the usual Feature Symbols like Wilds, and Scatters. One symbol you’ll see at the start of the game is the Scarab beetle, and this plays a huge role in replacing the traditional bonus features. 

First up, instead of Free spins, the player gets respins. Every win automatically triggers a respin, even when the win is already a result of a respin. This can mean consecutive cash payouts from one spin for any lucky fox who hits a streak. 

At the start of the game, you’ll see that 12 of the positions on the reels are covered by stone blockers. As well as a respin, every win also releases a Scarab beetle that destroys one of these blockers until all the positions are open and the full 3,125 ways to win are active.  

After that, a win will release either a blue or a red Scarab, which crawls off the grid to be collected in one of the statues on either side of it. The blue ones go to the statue on the left, and once five are collected, the win multiplier is increased by + 1, and is applied to all respin wins. The red Scarabs go to the statue on the right, and five award a bonus respin after a losing spin. 

The idea of a slot with no Wilds or Scatters might not appeal to all my foxy fans at first. But rest assured, my furry ones, once you start spinning the reels on Valley of the Gods, you won't even notice the lack.
