9 Mad Hats

9 Mad Hats is Microgaming partner Triple Edge Studios' latest release. And any fox who thinks there is something familiar about the title will recognise the gameplay immediately. 

This 5 reel, 3 row game is based on the hugely popular 9 Masks of Fire. The main bonus is the same in both, the Epic Strike feature. But the designers have gone to town on the graphics, creating an Alice in Wonderland meets Willy Wonka visual experience that looks nothing like the original, except for the symbols.  

The lower-paying symbols on the reels are diamond, clubs, spades and hearts card suits. The maximum that these award is 3.25 times the bet for five hearts on a payline. The premium symbols consist of single, double, and triple 7s of different colours. Landing three to five of a king of these will award from 1 x the bet for three single sevens, up to 37.50 x the bet for five triples. The betting range itself is from 0.20 up to 60 per spin.

The mushroom Wild stands in for regular symbols to help form wins. And it will also award prizes of 6.25 x, 25 x, or 125 x your stake for 3, 4 or 5 Wilds on a payline, respectively. 

The Scatter is a teacup, and can only land on reels two, three, and four. When it does, it awards a prize of 1 x the bet, and a spin of the Free Spin Wheel. 

The most important symbol in the game is the big, golden Top Hat. This is the Epic Strike symbol and awards a prize when three or more are in view. 

The Epic Strike feature keeps the excitement going in the base game. This revolves around the Top Hats, and can pay out the game’s top potential win of 2,000 x the bet. When three or more Top Hat symbols land anywhere on the reels, a prize is awarded. These payouts range from 1 x the bet for three all the way up to 2,000 x the bet for nine.   

The Free Spins round triggers with 3 Scatter symbols on reels 2, 3 and 4, which also give the lucky fox a payout of 1 x the bet. Before the Free Spins start, the Free Spins Wheel appears on the screen. This is divided into segments with a number of free Spins and a win multiplier on them. The player spins the Wheel and can win 10, 12, 15 or 20 free spins with an x 2 multiplier. If they are lucky enough to hit 25 or 30 Free Spins, the multiplier is x 3. Three more Scatters landing simultaneously during these spins will retrigger them with the same number of spins and multiplier as the initial round.
