The Rainbow Riches series is home to some iconic titles in the world of online slots. I know my foxy friends need no introduction to titles like Rainbow Riches Pick N Mix or Rainbow Riches Cluster Magic, to name a few. There's even a Rainbow Riches Megaways.

But what do you know about the slot that started it all, Barcrest's original game? This is a simple 5x3 slot with 20 fixed paylines. It was originally a land-based game, released back in 2008, with only one special feature, the Road to Riches, which was played on a separate screen. 

An online version was launched the next year, with a whole bunch of extra features and twists to gameplay that made it even more of an instant classic. Card ranks 10 to Ace, and the game's logo are the only regular paying symbols landing on the reels. The themed symbols, including the leprechaun, all have a different function, which Foxy will tell you all about below. 

The Wild is one of the leprechaun's gold coins, and you know it’s his because he stamped his profile on it. This will do the usual Wild thing of substituting for pay symbols on a payline. And it also awards its own payouts for combos of just two or more.

And there's not one, but three Scatters, in Rainbow Riches, the leprechaun, the wishing well, and the pot o' gold. This last one can only land on reels 2, 3, and 4. But each of them triggers their own great bonus game when three or more land. 

With three Scatters, you might be expecting a lot of Free Spins, but that’s not the case. Barcrest obviously decided to do things a little differently with this game, and instead, each Scatter triggers a mini-game. 

Wishing Wells Bonus: three or more of the wishing well Scatters trigger this one. When these land, players get to choose one by clicking on it to reveal a multiplier prize, anywhere from 2 x  to 500 x the bet. 

Road to Riches: three or more leprechaun Scatter symbols will set the player on the road. The little guy spins a wheel to advance the player to ever higher multiplier prizes. The round ends when the wheel lands on collect or the player reaches the max prize of 500 x the bet. 

Pots of Gold: Landing three pots o’ gold Scatters across reels 2, 3 and 4, and a bronze, silver or gold pot will spin round and award a multiplier prize of up to 500 x the bet. 

The fact that there were no actual Free Spins in the game caused a few foxy eyebrows to be raised when it was first released. But the different bonus mini-games quickly won over players, and it is still a hugely popular game.
