Things got a little scary this Tuesday on Foxy Radio as we discussed what gives us the creeps in a Phobia Special. Expert Jill Harvey joined us to advise both Babyphantom and Helen on ways of get over their fears of flying and baked beans respectively.
Babyphantom told us all about her flying and planes phobia that made her recent holiday a nightmare. "I have panic attacks even when a plane flies over my house," she told us. "I went on holiday in May and I will never get on a plane again. I have nightmares and it ruins my holiday thinking about having to fly back." Jill asked Baby to imagine if she was standing on a runway with a plane flying over her and advised her to tap around five times under her eye, arm and collarbone. This simple exercise really helped to relax Baby and Jill explained why. "It works because it uses acupuncture to calm us down", explained Jill. It was then time to tackle Helens fear with a tin of baked beans being brought in the studio and opened in front of her eyes. Jill advised Helen to visualize her fear as the colour red and then imagine it spinning around, before turning it into a calming blue and spinning it the other way. Though the technique calmed Helen down a little, its unlikely shell be enjoying baked beans on toast anytime soon.
Other phobias of the night include AaronsMummy who told us about her fear of feet and Geraldine who freaks out when she sees people being sick. However the best phobia of the evening was Tararas who has a fear of lorries without trailers. "When I was younger I watched a Stephen King film that had lorries with out trailers circling round a petrol station and I have been terrified ever since," she told us. "I dont drive because of it. Everyone thinks its a joke but I dont think its at all funny."
Winners of the evening included Curlywurlykaz who netted an iPod for correctly guessing that All Saints hit Never Ever was the weeks Sing it Back tune and to Tullula67 who once again scooped victory for Leeds in Town Tourney.
