Red Nose Day 2009

Play Something Funny for Money

Where does your money go?

By donating this Red Nose Day, you’re helping to change lives forever. That's because Comic Relief spends all the money raised to give extremely vulnerable, poor and disadvantaged people in the UK and Africa a helping hand to turn their lives around.

Here are just a few examples of how your money is spent in the UK.

Teesdale Day Clubs

Teesdale Day Clubs runs clubs for older people across 10 small towns and villages in the remote rural area of Teesdale. They provide social events for vulnerable older people so they feel less lonely and isolated.

The Bridge Enterprise Centre

The Bridge Enterprise Centre provides friendly and informal learning opportunities by delivering training courses and offering community facilities such as a meeting space. This means that many more local people have access to skills and training to improve their job prospects.

Developing Initiatives For Support in the Community

DISC runs a number of projects for vulnerable young people growing up in homes where domestic violence takes place. Growing up in this violent environment often means that young people are isolated and feel they have a heavy burden of responsibility towards protecting their mum and siblings.

A grant from Comic Relief has enabled DISC to provide group and one-to-one support and has in some cases involved mums and siblings in order to help rebuild family bonds.
